IN CHARACTER
PHYSICAL AFFECTION: generally yes, with the caveat that she can sometimes reject physical contact when she's worked up, but she's also touch-starved so she would probably enjoy hugs and such with people she trusts
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: yes! let's plan around it though, so I can figure how she'll respond ( see her opt-in/opt-out to learn more about her combat abilities )
RELATIONSHIPS: I won't discount the possibility, but with her fractured mindset, she might not really understand the nature of a romantic relationship. it would definitely take some plotting and character development but I'd be down to try!
PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: River is a very powerful psychic with virtually no control over her abilities. other psychics can probably pick up on the state of her mind, which was essentially flayed open to remove any natural capacity for controlling her thoughts or emotions. this was done to her intentionally ( but against her will ) so that she would be able to pick up all of the information about the people and places around her. people with supernatural defenses to prevent mind-reading will likely be pretty effective against her, as she is not probing intentionally and canon does not suggest she may have trained to break through other supernatural abilities. it might feel like fingers passively tapping on the glass or the full swing of a hammer depending on her mental state. I'm happy to discuss how this might play out between our characters! more on her mental state in the comments below
MAGICAL INFORMATION: aside from the mystery of her psychic abilities, there doesn't appear to be magic in canon
MEDICAL INFORMATION: River is in a very fragile medical state. physical and psychological torture has severely impaired her cognitive function and she sometimes has difficulty eating or keeping down food. Simon has tried treating her with various medicines, but they quickly stop working as her body adapts to them. it's not really clear what will happen to her without Simon or his medical care - I'd love to plot around this!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
VISUAL: 5'6, roughly 90lbs soaking wet. thin and pale. long brown hair and brown eyes. typically has very wide curious eyes that may shamelessly stare directly at people.

DEMEANOUR: she's got the overall demeanor of someone that's Not Quite There in the head. her speech is often very cryptic, confusing, or outright nonsense. generally speaking though, she's sweet and playful, like a child that's just playing a game as she moves through life.

river's mental state
Remember to check out her opt-in/opt-out post! ( content warnings: child abuse, human experimentation, torture, murder/death )
- notably, her mind is not a straightforward "landscape" if you will. there's both physical and mental scarring on her brain, so her overall mindstate will be dark, confusing, non-linear, and illogical. it might be like walking through Escher's Relativity with horror movie lighting and monsters around each corner!
- her memories are not very clear either; she remembers everything that happened at the Academy, but it comes to her in confusing flashes, so i would ask that it be similarly hard to get a firm grasp on her history
- what they can easily find out is that:
- she was 14 when she went to the Academy willingly, and this was a government sponsored program
- they tortured her both physically and psychologically ( along with other "students" ) until she was rescued by her brother Simon roughly two years ago
- they are now hiding from the government ( the Alliance or Liánméng ) on the spaceship Serenity
- the "feeling" they'll get from her psychic powers is that they are powerful and wildly out of control, constantly "on" and reaching for everything/everyone in a wide radius, and absorbing an inordinate amount of information at once
- the "feeling" they'll get from her mentally/emotionally is a constant state of overwhelm and confusion, with no form of emotional self-regulation, persistent feelings of fear and paranoia, and a childlike mentality of being very curious, very smart, and still not fully understanding things or knowing what is/isn't real
- there will be a lot of monsters ( human and mythical ) and dead bodies in varying states of decay in her thoughts; it's difficult to tell what's a nightmare or a memory
- they may also see the impression of hospital facilities, blank, empty cells ( more like an asylum than a prison ), doctors and orderlies in white masks, and uniformed soldiers stomping around

All of this is free game! She has no mental blockers to prevent people from reading her, but unless they have an ability to hide themselves, she will probably be able to tell that they're there in her head. If you have any questions or ideas for how to play around with this, please do let me know!
